Community Partners

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The Whatcom County Tech Prep Consortium operates through a series of councils and committees. The Consortium Director facilitates the work of the various groups and serves as a resource person to the participating schools, community, and business members. There are three key committees overseeing the day-to-day business of the Consortium.

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL: provides the district and community vision and guidance for implementation of Tech Prep programs and projects throughout Whatcom County schools. Members include all school district Superintendents and College Presidents.

EDUCATION COUNCIL: provides the partnership link between all secondary and post-secondary schools and ensures that programs are coordinated and implemented within the individual schools. Members include high school principals, assistant principals, college vice presidents and deans from each Consortium school partner.

STEERING COMMITTEE: members serve in an advisory capacity providing over-sight, monitoring and guidance in regards to conducting the Consortium's program business and operations. Working with the Consortium director, members help develop policy, facilitate activities, monitor quality and appropriateness of programs developed and approve annual grant RFP's. Members include local high school and college faculty representatives, small and large business, labor organizations, government, nonprofit and community-at-large members.

WHATCOM COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: a Consortium sponsored, web-based communication center designed to link Whatcom County schools with community partners. Teachers and students can access database information and locate a community partner that best matches their request. Community partners may choose to offer job shadows, informational interviews, internships, service learning/volunteer projects, mentor a student's culminating project, attend a career fair or serve as a classroom guest speaker.
